Summary

Help support the running of our monthly Coding club for children and young people ages 7-17.

Detailed description

We run a monthly Coder Dojo for local children and young people ages 7-17 to have a go and learn to code. It is a relaxed group with people mostly working on their own projects, and occasional group ones.

By getting involved you can...

  • support the next generation to develop skills
  • develop your own skills
  • get creative
  • have fun!

What will you be doing?

  • Helping young people get computers set up and logged in to the internet.
  • Checking in with the young people and supporting them to problem solve whilst developing their projects.
  • Encouraging young people to help each other.

What skills and experience are needed?

  • You don't need experience coding, just an ability to problem solve. We mostly work in Scratch, Python, Blendr and Tinkercad.
  • Some experience working with children/young people is great but not essential – enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in are the main requirements.
  • You will need to be able to work in a team, and in a calm, creative manner with the children/young people.
  • You will be able to lead by example and model positive behaviour and communication, to support the children/young people with their development.

Is there any training required?

  • Basic safeguarding training is required and will be provided.
  • A DBS check is a requirement of this role.

About Abbey People

We are a vibrant community charity in the Abbey Ward of Cambridge, improving the lives and wellbeing of Abbey residents. We do this through targeted community projects, provision of general support such as a community Food Hub, supporting access to education and employment, projects to improve the environment, and by developing a culture of volunteering in the community.
