Summary
Abbey Food Hub is a place where anyone in the community can come to access food. As well as saving food from going to waste, people can access essentials here.Detailed description
The Food Hub is open on Monday 1-2:30pm, Wednesday 3:30-5:30pm and Saturday 11-12:30pm. We need volunteers to help before, during and after the sessions.
Volunteering involves:
Helping to set up before the Food Hub session. This includes weighing any food donations, checking the food is safe to give out and setting up the food stations.
During the session, responsibilities include serving food to visitors, chatting with them and making the Session Lead aware of any further support visitors may need.
After the session: helping to clear away - putting away any fruit and veg that needs to be stored in the fridge until the next session and discarding of any food that will not be safe to keep until the next session. Packing away other food into crates, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and helping to sweep and mop the floor.
This role is incredibly flexible and we can adjust it to your needs e.g. for anyone with anxiety, you can come help set up before we open to the public or for anyone who can't do much heavy lifting, you can sit on the door to welcome and chat to people :)
Without our team of incredible and dedicated volunteers, the Food Hub would not still be here. Come join our friendly team, get to know the local community whilst providing a service that so many depend on.
