Summary
Help support the running of our group for girls living in AbbeyDetailed description
We run a weekly group (term time only) for girls ages 12-16 living in the Abbey ward of Cambridge. We do a range of things during sessions including games, cooking, crafts, quizzes and wellbeing activities, but it is just as much a space for them to hang out in a safe space without male peers. The idea behind the session is to bolster friendships, improve confidence and discuss issues affecting them.
By getting involved you can...
- Support the development of the next generation
- Develop your skills around working with young people
- Get creative and try out new activities
- Have fun!
Please note this role is open to women applicants only due to the nature of the group, and is exempt under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
What will you be doing?
Each session is different but your role could include:
- setting up and packing down equipment
- chatting with young people about their day
- supporting craft activities
- running a quiz or game
- supervising cooking
What skills and experience are needed?
- Some experience working with young people is great but not essential – enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in are the main requirements.
- You will be able to lead by example and model positive behaviour and communication, to support the young people with their development.
- Be empathetic and able to listen - sometimes discussion can be about sensitive topics .
- If you have any hobbies or skills that might be of interest to the young people we'd love you to share them.
Is there any training required?
- Basic safeguarding training is required and will be provided.
- A DBS check is a requirement of this role.
