We are looking for volunteers to support our Education Officer to deliver school visits and help with family activities in the school holidays or on event days.Detailed description
Main role:
To support the delivery of school visits, youth or adult group tours, and school holiday activities, to ensure the maximum educational benefit and enjoyment of all.
Hours:
As required to cover school and group bookings, these can take place any day of the week between March and November, but school visits are usually scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Dress Code:
Practical, comfortable and warm. A volunteer lanyard and badge will be provided.

Duties:
This is a selection of tasks the learning team undertake. Help with all or with just one or two is welcome:
• Welcome and assist a variety of groups, providing a high standard service
• Lead a small group in a practical activity or object handling session
• Guide and inform about The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey
• Ensuring the learning resources and equipment are well cared for
• Support the development and wider use of the Education Resources collection for loaning to local organisations
• Help with planning and/or delivering family school holiday craft activities
• Contribute to development and improvement of new school and family learning activities
Training:
• Observation and shadowing of school/group sessions
• Mentoring by an experienced member of the team
• Printed planning, learning resources & handling objects are available for different sessions offered
• All relevant Farmland Museum Health & Safety, Safeguarding and collections-related policies and procedures. A DBS check at the appropriate level will be undertaken for all volunteers working with children and young people.
Personal qualities required:
• Good communication skills
• Enjoys working in a busy team environment with other volunteers, specialist staff and trustees
• Has or would like to develop skills to lead a practical school group session
• Attention to and strict adherence to Museum’s Safeguarding Policy and procedures
• Willing to work with school groups, young & family learners
• Able to work within structure and timings of a pre-planned and agreed session
• Happy to work independently at times, once feeling confident in the skills needed
• Previous experience of working with children is helpful, but not essential
• A recent knowledge of the national curriculum would be helpful but not essential
