Summary

We are looking for someone to welcome visitors as they arrive at the museum, sell tickets, provide information and look after the museum gift shop.

Detailed description

Main role:

To support with the day-to-day running of the admissions kiosk and gift shop, including serving customers, selling tickets, stocking shelves, and keeping the shop clean and tidy.

 

Hours: 

By mutual arrangement and as required on days we are open to the public, Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays from March to October.

 

Dress Code:

Practical, comfortable and warm. A volunteer lanyard and badge will be provided.

Duties

  • Welcome visitors and sell admission tickets
  • Provide information on Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum, answering visitor questions and queries
  • Use a touchscreen till to process cash and card purchases in the shop
  • Sell gift shop products and re-stock shelves
  • General housekeeping duties to ensure the shop is clean and safe 

 

Training

  • Observation and shadowing of kiosk staff
  • Training on use of the touchscreen till
  • All relevant Farmland Museum Health & Safety, safeguarding and collections-related policies and procedures


Personal qualities required

  • Enjoys working in a busy team environment with other volunteers, specialist staff and trustees
  • Ability to chat with customers and cultivate a friendly environment in the museum
  • Uses safe working practices at all times
  • Happy to work independently, once feeling confident in the skills needed 
  • Interest in Fenland farming history, local history, museums or archives is helpful, but not essential
