Summary
Group Support Volunteers RequiredDetailed description
Home-Start Cambridgeshire is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families, with at least one child under the age of 5, who are going through a difficult time.
No special qualifications are necessary to become a group support volunteer, but volunteers usually have an interest in, and experience of, young children and family life. They understand that sometimes family life can be tough and that is why a Volunteer’s support can be so valuable in helping another family. They will provide support to families via attendance at a weekly family group. Our team of group staff and volunteers work with parents and children to explore wellbeing topics and learning opportunities. Play experiences for the children, and peer support for the parents are key themes amongst our existing groups.
Volunteers are central to the Home-Start service; we could not offer families the same support without them.
Home-Start volunteers give a high level of commitment and reliability and in return receive high quality preparation and ongoing training, supervision and support.
Home-Start Cambridgeshire is committed to safer recruitment practise as an important part of safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults. Any offer of a voluntary role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check.
We are recruiting for our next Prep Course which starts in January. If you are interested please get in touch.
What we will provide to volunteers

backgrounds with at least one child under 5. We support families in local communities
who are experiencing a range of challenges including poor mental / physical health,
postnatal depression, bereavement, financial worries, isolation. We work with families to
build on their strengths and give them the support they tell us they need.
We provide support to families via our trained home visiting volunteers. Volunteers
are matched with families and then usually visit once a week for 2 hours.
Volunteers offer no judgement, just compassionate, confidential help and support.
We are parents supporting other parents to be the best they can be, to give children
the best start in life possible.
