Summary
Our House Experience Volunteers add the sparkle to any visit – giving everyone a warm welcome and bringing stories from Anglesey Abbey to life.Detailed description
The Anglesey Abbey estate includes a Jacobean-style house, surrounded by diverse gardens and a working watermill, and has a history that can be traced back 800 years. Anglesey Abbey is one of the National Trust’s 28 Discovery Houses, including an internationally significant collection, at one of the National Trust’s most successful and dynamic properties.
By getting involved, you could...
- Get to know Anglesey Abbey and its visitors.
- Learn, develop and share your knowledge of an internationally significant collection.
- Join a varied and enthusiastic team and forge new friendships.
- Gain experience in storytelling and welcoming visitors
You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What’s involved?
- As part of a close-knit team, help create a warm welcome for every visitor.
- Help bring Anglesey Abbey to life by engaging visitors in conversation, offering a warm and friendly experience for everyone, sharing authentic stories about the house, its history, and its collections, and adapting these narratives to suit different audiences.
- Share inspiring stories, intriguing facts, and practical information—or simply offer visitors the freedom to explore at their own pace.
- Enjoy numerous opportunities to make a significant impact through the small details, such as revealing the hidden stories behind objects.
- Deepen your understanding of Anglesey Abbey to effectively convey its unique charm, both indoors and out, including through exclusive talks by National and property experts designed for volunteers.
- Represent the National Trust as a charity by demonstrating our shared values throughout your volunteer work.
- Adapt to the evolving needs of Anglesey Abbey by contributing to both our temporary exhibitions and permanent collections—2025 is set to showcase one of our largest exhibitions ever.
- Cater to the varied needs of all visitors, including those with additional access requirements.
- Attend essential briefings to ensure you remain informed and effective in your role.
- Assist with health and safety measures and emergency evacuation procedures when required.
