Summary

Discover how you can join our vibrant team and support adults with learning disabilities through the arts.

Detailed description

Rowan is an arts centre and forest school for adults with learning disabilities and has been running since 1984. We believe in a world where all people with learning disabilities can participate in the creative arts. We seek to promote wellbeing and eliminate social exclusion, isolation and prejudice.

Using visual and performing arts, Rowan endeavours to provide a safe, creative and enriching environment where adults with learning disabilities, under the direction of artists, craftspeople and volunteers, can grow artistically, as well as in their abilities, confidence and self-esteem – all vital ingredients for independent living, health and wellbeing.

Rowan is looking for a Chair of Trustees and are ideally seeking applications from people with a background in the following:

• Interest in supporting adults with learning disability,

• Experience as a trustee, and / or previous experience as a Chair,

• Experience in some of the following: finance, budgeting, health and safety, governance, safeguarding and/or strategy.

• Willingness to attend and represent the charity at social events, sometimes in the evenings and at weekends,

• Ability to represent the charity in the community with local dignitaries,

• Interest in the arts.

Time commitment: Board meetings are held 5-7pm on the third Wednesday each month in person in Chesterton. In the week prior to this there is around 5-10 hours of preparation. In other weeks there are 1-5 hours a week of time required.
