Detailed description

Can you spare some time? Would you like to work with ducks and improve your health and wellbeing?

We have lots of volunteering opportunities at the moment. As long as you are physically fit (for the physical roles) and don’t mind getting dirty we would love to hear from you

Roles

Health support

We have a number of disabled and elderly ducks who need support with their care including bathing for those who cannot do so fully.

Mucking out

We have over 70 duck houses so mucking out and cleaning is a critical part of rescue life.

Waters

Every pen has several pools for the ducks to swim in and drink from. All need cleaning and refilling

Feeding

Feeding of all the flocks by refilling all their food tubs usually takes about 1 – 1.5 hours each week and requires some physical strength as the food comes in 20kg bags

Housekeeping

Keeping the rescue tip top, tidy and organised

Open up and close up

Helping with waking the flocks in the morning or putting them to bed at night. Times vary depending on the time of year. Usually takes 45 mins to 1.5 hours each end of the day

Egg collecting

Collecting and boxing eggs to go in our honesty box.

Maintenance and building

We often have duck houses in need of repair or for new areas or items to be built

Grounds and gardening

We have a lot of space and so there is always a need to keep the hedgerows clipped and opportunities to grow food for the ducks. We have a poly tunnel, fruit tunnel and horticulture space ready for growing

Transport

We often need help with collecting and dismantling items. For example when buying something second hand in the local area like a shed or duck house. (This could be any days and times)

Fundraising

Working on events and plans for fundraising and putting the plans into action (This could be any days and times)

Volunteering can be any time or days between Monday to Saturday daylight hours. Whilst we prefer a regular commitment, we also welcome ad hoc support.
