Volunteer roles
The Library Presents volunteers support the following roles:
Setting up spaces
This may include: Putting out chairs and tables, putting up backdrop curtains and moving bookcases.
Stewarding
This may include: Welcoming people, checking tickets, collecting feedback, assisting those with accessibility requirements.
Refreshments
This may include: Setting up and serving interval drinks. At some events this may include serving alcohol. At workshops this may include making tea and coffee. This may involve handling money.
Promotion
This may include: Distributing brochures and posters or posting on social media.
Technical Support
This may include: Setting up basic sound and light equipment.
TLP volunteers will:
· Be sent the brochure ahead each season so that they can select activities they wish to support.
· Be supervised and supported at all activities by a TLP coordinator or member of library staff.
· Be given training as required on the roles above (especially technical support).
· Not be made to do any task they are uncomfortable with.
· Send details of timing of arrival and departure for activities and contact numbers as required.
· Be offered the opportunity to receive Time Credits in exchange for the hours worked.
· Be allowed to claim travel expenses.
TLP Volunteers need to:
· Inform the TLP coordinators at the earliest opportunity if they are no longer able to support an event they have been allocated for.
· Inform library staff and TLP coordinators if they are unable/do not wish to undertake a task.
On occasions, TLP extends library staff training opportunities to volunteers so that they can take part free of charge. This information will be shared by volunteers via email.
Once a year TLP volunteers are asked to provide details about themselves, feedback on their experiences and the activities they have supported. This very useful for help with the evaluation of the programme and reporting to funders. Taking part in this process is anonymous and voluntary.
