An exciting role for someone interested in developing new fundraising initiatives that will support the Museum to become more sustainable.

The Wisbech and Fenland Museum, established in 1835, is one of the oldest in the country and its collections are housed in a purpose built Victorian building (opened in 1847). As well as housing a wealth of unique collections, it also plays an important role within the community, especially supporting development programmes for the education of children within Fenland.

Sources of public funding have declined over recent years, apart from the support of Wisbech Town Council, which means that the Museum currently runs with a budget deficit, something that cannot continue.

To ensure that this valuable asset to the community remains open and continues to thrive we need a Volunteer Fundraiser. This is an opportunity for someone to make a major contribution to the community through the survival of the Museum as we know it.

The Volunteer Fundraiser will:

·       Liaise with the Chairman and Curator to create and manage new (non-grant) funding initiatives.

·       Manage the promotion of the Patrons and Supporters Circle fundraising schemes.

Essential Skills/Experience

·       Initiative taking

·       Organisational skills

·       Written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Skills/Experience

·       Experience in fundraising

·       Practical marketing experience

Expectations

We need someone to create and manage new fundraising initiatives.

Successfully promote the existing Patrons and Supporters Circle fundraising schemes.

Provide enough dedicated time to the overall task to achieve success.

About Wisbech and Fenland Museum

Wisbech & Fenland Museum is housed in one of the first purpose-designed museums in the world and opened its doors in 1847.
The Museum is an important educational and research resource for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. It exists to inspire people, to stimulate ideas, and to satisfy a passion for knowledge. As a key destination in Wisbech and surrounding Fenland’s tourism offer, the Museum illuminates and celebrates Wisbech’s proud past and distinctive present, and helps people connect to their cultural inheritance and generate a sense of identity and belonging.
Alongside the permanent galleries, the Museum programmes a diverse range of temporary exhibitions, many of which are co-produced with local communities and groups. This is complemented by a programme of associated events and activities that attract a diverse range of audiences.
