Summary

Join our team in this flexible role. You'll develop digital and customer service skills, whilst you support charities in their volunteer recruitment.

Detailed description

Why we need you

Help us to raise the profile of volunteering in Cambridgeshire by joining our team in this flexible volunteer role.

As a valued member of the Volunteer Cambs team, you will be supporting the day-to-day administration and upkeep of the Volunteer Cambs website. You will also have the opportunity to attend adhoc events with the Volunteer Cambs team, to help spread the word about volunteering in Cambridgeshire, if you would like.

What will you do?

Routine responsibilities include:

  • Helping to oversee applications and new volunteering opportunities on the Volunteer Cambs website, checking information is accurate.
  • Helping the manager to see if volunteer opportunities have received applications, helping groups to update their profile as appropriate.
  • Helping the manager to contact groups when they set up a profile on Volunteer Cambs to welcome them and help them navigate the site.

Additional optional activity:

  • To accompany members of the team to public events in Cambridge, where we talk about the benefits of volunteering.
  • To help with local poster placement and leaflets campaigns in Cambridge.

What qualities are we looking for?

We are ideally looking for:

  • Someone with a passion for helping others.
  • Someone who is a good listener.
  • Someone who feels confident on the computer.
  • Someone with good attention to detail.
  • Someone who would like to learn new things.

This role is perfect for someone with a passion for local charities or would like to understand how the sector works.

It could equally be of interest to someone who has worked or wants to work in reception or helpdesk support and would like to develop their digital and communication skills.

What your time will give others:

While Volunteer Cambs doesn’t impact anyone directly by supporting the team, you will indirectly support volunteering across the county as part of a countywide service supporting thousands of residents.

This means you support not only youth but also animals, the older generation, those with health conditions, and the wider Support Cambridgeshire team.

What you get out of this role:

Within the role you will be able to develop computer, and database skills whilst also developing knowledge of volunteer-involving organisations across the whole of Cambridgeshire.

  • Volunteers can claim reasonable out of pocket expenses, subject to the production of receipts as evidence of the expenditure. This includes travel if volunteering in the office and will be discussed further at enquiry stage.
  • Support and training on the Volunteer Cambs website.
  • Induction supported by the CCVS Volunteer Handbook.
  • References from our team after 2 months.
  • GDPR certificate.
  • Volunteer Cambs T-shirt.

You will be supported and trained by Sally, CCVS, Deputy CEO in this role, with online or in-person check-ins and the opportunity to attend in-person team socials, if you would like.

Time Commitment:

This roles is suitable for those aged 16 upwards.

We expect this role to take no more than 6 or 8 hours per month.

These hours could be split across the month as the volunteer wishes and done either in the Cambridge office or at home. This time commitment can be tailored to your interests and time.

While elements of this role can be done at any time, the individual would need to be available for a monthly online or in-person catch-up meeting, during office hours.

Considerations:

Please note that as you will be dealing with personal data, you will be required to

  • Undergo a basic DBS check, which we will support you with.
  • GDPR training, prior to taking part in the role.
  • Take part in online training on the system.
  • Provide two references. These references don’t need to be from a previous work place but should not be from a relative.

We are very happy to talk this through and would support you through these elements if you were to apply.
